It works fine now, both in start and cron mode with Freddy's revised script
All left todo now is to disable the logging or send the logentry to /dev/null so the logfile won't overflow the ram.

Yes, flash with generic standard: http://fon.freddy.eu.org/dd-wrt/
Then follow the thread below to setup chillispot to work as a FON Hotspot, then come back here to implement the heartbeat.

yeap. completely right!
unless i'm able to make my dd-wrt flavor, based on mini, but it just got too hard to do since i'm still dealing with virtual machine's issues... |

Ok everybody... thanks for setting me straight with the whole fon/dd-wrt confusion.
I updated to freddy's generic firmware, turned on jffs, and ssh'ed into my router to wget the key and script when i get this lovely error:
wget: fonkey: No space left on device
I thought the purpose of upgrading to the generic dd-wrt was because it could do chillispot AND have room for the heartbeat script.
Any suggestions?
thanks in advance

::edit::
Is there some quota command to show available space / used space?
Also, once I have this going, will other, non-fon people (i.e. my girlfriend / family) be able to connect without logging into fon?
- just some additional questions for you all |

I was able to go directly from Fon's firmware to mini using *their* web update. | Sorry for the confusion. The instructions I linked to are for recovering from a bricked router, but step 5 and forward illustrate using the micro version to flash a full version. Obviously, you can use the web flash interface in the fon firmware to switch to another firmware, but it's helpful to flash to the micro version first, because it will leave more free working space and allow you to clear the nvram variables.

That version does not contain KAID, so it has more free space i ram.
Or you can get a SP2 alpha version from the DD-WRT with KAID but still has some space left for the heartbeat.
You can see status of free space in Status in the DD-WRT Control Panel.
When you got the heartbeat working, you can go to your social router on the FON webpage and add friends and family. _________________ We are not pshychics, with 99% certainty - (c) FON

that won't work, you have to use the local users managment function for chilispot
and because of "No space left on device" try to cenable "Clean JFFS2" _________________ status: Linus

That's exactly why i started this new demand after a new firmware...
Although i added users, i've never been able to use them, since redirecting never worked in fon nor in ddwrt+chillispot.
BTW, if you're successful, would you mind tho post here what happens with other aplications that are not browsers, like p2p or ftp on those "family laptops"? thanks! |

Then I proabably made something unnessecary, as I added friends/family both on FON's page, and in chillispot, and in addition, I've never tried it as I connect my PDA to my D-Link AP _________________ We are not pshychics, with 99% certainty - (c) FON

Hey!
Found this today when checking how to recompile DDWRT!
http://www.bitsum.com/firmware_mod_kit.htm
i think i'll give it a try, since it might accelerate the building of the list i made earlier.
BTW, no one told me yet, if what i need is possible. so, let's start with this: how can i have tho independent networks? I read somewere that i can have one ssid for the public and one for my private network, am i right? how can i achieve this? |

Maybe if you look in threads that deals with dual SSID's you might find something useful. This thread deals with implementing heartbeat. if you look at threads name U'll see what I mean. Hint: Use Search. _________________ We are not pshychics, with 99% certainty - (c) FON

Hi,
I reflashed my Fon router with Freddy's firmware. After flashing, I can't connect to my router anymore.
I assume(d) it has IP 192.168.1.1 but that doesn't work. The router has the following lights on: power, WLAN, internet.
What should I do now, or did I just brick it?
Any help is appreciated. |

in your computer shut it down and turn it on again with it connected to the router by cable.
then, when the sistem finishes loading, if windows go to run, cmd and execute "ipconfig". the default gateway's address is your router ip.
if in linux, do ifconfig and it's the same as above. |

Connect a Pc in DHCP on a LAN port of the router.
If you have an IP address see from where (ipconfig /all on the PC and get the DHCP server address) this is your router address.

Hi dfr,
thanks for your quick reply! Much appreciated.
I tried what you said, but it didn't work. I did an ipconfig /release and /renew and I didn't get an IP
Reset the router and tried again, nothing happened |

Check the cable
is it a straight cable or crossed one ? you must not use a crossed one. _________________ French Foneros community - www.francofon.fr |

Unfortunately it's a normal straight UTP cable which I normally use for my server, so I'm pretty sure it's good cable |

I'm pretty sure all Linksys routers now use auto-correcting ports on the LAN and WAN sides. You should use a normal pass-through, but a crossover cable should work 99% of the time. _________________ Well, as Revolutions go, this one has certainly been revolting!

I can only speak for my own FON provided router WRT54GL v. 1.01 and it autodetect straight or crossed. So does just about any router made in the past few years.
This might sound a bit redundant, but really do try and reboot the router a few times, and I mean up to 10 times (I had to reboot approx. 5-6 times before it kicked in). Doesn't matter if you do iy thru the GUI interface or via SSH/Telnet. but via the GUI you might get page not found a few times.
Anyways, I almost gave up once as well, but the reboots took me further. _________________ We are not pshychics, with 99% certainty - (c) FON

I don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, or if it's important, but my router's fake heartbeat returned this order today, and there is precious little information about it on teh webs:
| Code: | # begin # set /etc/chilli.conf
/etc/init.d/chillispot radconfig
killall -HUP chilli
# end # set /etc/hosts
rm -f /tmp/.thinclient.sh
exit | I first suspected that radconfig could be a command to pull chilli's configuration down from the RADIUS server, instead of obeying the local configuration files.
Chillispot.org doesn't contain any mention of this command in the man files. The ONLY refrence google could give me of this command was in a textfile hosted at OpenWRT:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/people/nbd/tmp/tmp.txt
where it appears to be a refrence to a script subroutine that downloads files and replaces existing files on the router, like our v2 heartbeat.
This appears to be part of a fon firmware development repository:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/people/nbd/tmp/
Which also contains this file that referrs to fon AND a second SSID:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/people/nbd/tmp/tmp
So what does everyone think? Is this fon's v3 heartbeat with some twist that is supposed to make it impossible for us to fake?
Doesn't fon realize that if we can't continue to fake the heartbeat, we'll abandon The Movement alltogether? This heartbeat and remote control BS is NOT about quality or security, it is about fon keeping it's greasy, orange fingers firmly wrapped around our balls (or bosoms!). _________________ Well, as Revolutions go, this one has certainly been revolting!
